Missouri Citizens Bank robbed
A phoney bomb threat on three Charleston schools diverted law enforcement attention from a bank robbery at the Charleston Commercial Street Citizens Bank.
At about 11:20 a.m., Charleston Department of Public Safety received a call of a bomb threat at three local schools. While investigating, DPS also received a report of a bank robbery at the Charleston Commercial Street Citizens Bank.
The local schools were evacuated, and students were transported to local churches.
The SEMO Bomb Squad assisted in the search for explosives, but none were found.
Students returned to class around 2 p.m.
Investigation revealed that the bomb threat at the local schools served as a distraction tactic, tieing up law enforcement resources away from the bank robbery.
During the robbery, two black males entered the bank, displayed handguns, demanded cash and then fled the scene on foot with an undetermined amount of cash.
