A batch of mosquitoes in Jackson County, Illinois have tested positive for West Nile Virus.

That makes Jackson County the ninth county in the state to have a positive test this year.  But so far, there have been no reports of the virus in people.

Here are some ways to help protect yourself from West Nile:

Try to stay indoors when mosquitoes are most active, especially between dusk and dawn.

Wear shoes and socks, long pants and a long-sleeved shirt when you are outside...

Use insect repellent that contains Deet, Picaridin or oil from lemon eucalyptus

Eliminate sources of standing water that can support mosquito breeding, including water in bird baths, ponds, flowerpots, wading pools, and old tires.
