MURPHYSBORO, Ill. - A southern Illinois man is in jail after police say he burglarized multiple churches in Murphysboro.

The Murphysboro Police Department says 24-year-old James Michael Burke forcibly entered the First Baptist Church on Saturday night and stole property. Burke then allegedly broke into the United Methodist Church twice -- once on Sunday and again early Monday -- taking church property both times.

Burke was arrested early Tuesday and charged with three counts of Burglary to a Place of Worship. He is also currently on parole stemming from a previous Retail Theft conviction.

Murphysboro Police say additional arrests are pending.
