Murray State player Zay Jackson could face more charges once new details come to light
CALLOWAY COUNTY, Ky.— A dispute over a shopping cart in a Walmart parking lot leads to the arrest of Zay Jackson, a member of the Murray State basketball team.
One of the alleged victims wouldn't explain exactly what happened, because she hasn't been cleared by the commonwealth attorney to talk to us yet. She did say that there's a lot more to this case than what we know right now. Those extra details could throw more charges Jackson's way.
Murray City Police's Sgt. Scott Svebakken said, "He's been charged on two counts of second degree assault." When Jackson was first arrested, he faced two charges of first degree assault. His bond was also lessened from $20,000 to $15,000 Monday morning.
Jackson allegedly hit two people with his car in the Walmart parking lot. Though his charges are less severe, they are class c felonies according to Sgt. Svebakken. Jackson who said, "There are apparent minor injuries in the case."
A woman who claims she was hit sounded off on our facebook saying she and her husband were victims. She also said Jackson should never play basketball again.
Jackson is scheduled for a preliminary hearing September 26th. Store surveillance video exists, but police have not released it.
