Native Kentuckian is first licensed diabetes educator
FRANKFORT, Ky - Kim Decoste, a native Kentuckian is the first licensed diabetes educator in the United States.
Kentucky has become the first state to require licensing of diabetes educators in an attempt to improve the state's quality of health care.
Diabetes educators will work with people who are diagnosed with or at risk of diabetes assess and develop a plan of care. They will help those with diabetes how to best manage their health.
DeCoste is a registered nurse and the chair of the Kentucky Diabetes Educators Licensure Board.
