TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - President Barack Obama is telling union workers in Ohio that Mitt Romney would guide the nation to a "losing season," using a sports metaphor to insist that voters should take his opponent's plan and "punt it away."

The president was marking Labor Day in union-friendly Toledo, noting that he stepped in to help rescue automakers General Motors and Chrysler in 2009.

Obama responded to a recent Romney speech, in which the GOP nominee said it was "time to get a new coach" and time for America "to see a winning season again."

Obama says Romney's tax plan sounds like "unnecessary roughness." The president says: "You don't need that coach. That's a losing season."

Obama was traveling to Louisiana later Monday to view flood damage from Hurricane Isaac.

Earlier story:

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - President Barack Obama will make the case for reelection during a Labor Day visit to the key swing state of Ohio today.

He'll speak to autoworkers and as he did Sunday, reminding them of Mitt Romney's opposition to the auto industry bailout. Later, Obama will head to Louisiana to tour an area hard hit by Hurricane Isaac.

Hundreds of thousands in the state remain affected by flooding and power outages.
