One man disappears on Big Turner Lake overnight, search effort ongoing

BALLARD COUNTY, Ky. — Rescue workers are searching for a 48-year-old man who disappeared on Big Turner Lake on the refuge overnight.  

Sgt. Garry Clark with Kentucky Fish & Wildlife confirms to Local 6 that some time between 11p.m. Friday and 12a.m. Saturday three people boarded a 12 foot jon boat and headed out on the water. 
 
Clark says one of the passengers stood up in the boat, forcing it to tip over.  Two people managed to grab onto the boat and make it back to shore.  A third person, 48-year-old Barry Hammonds of Lovelaceville, Ky.,  is missing. 
 
Multiple emergency crews continue to search for Hammonds.
