LYTHAM ST. ANNES, England - Paducah's Russ Cochran has withdrawn from the 2012 Open Championship due to a back strain he suffered at last week's U.S. Senior Open.

Cochran was scheduled to tee off at just before 6:00 a.m central time.  He has been replaced in the field by Michael Thompson.

Cochran had to withdraw from last week's Senior U.S. Open after suffering a back strain.  He had hoped to be ready for this week's championship, as he made the trip to England with the intention of giving it a shot.

Cochran was in this year's field because of his victory in last year's Senior British Open Championship.  He will attempt to defend his title next week at Turnberry, health permitting.
