Pension amendment on the ballot in Illinois

Next month, voters in Illinois will decide if it should be harder to raise retirement benefits for public employees.

If passed, a 60 percent vote instead of a simple majority would be required for any pension increase.    

Supporters of the legislation say legislators too often grant better benefits without worrying about the cost, but opponents say it's not clear how much the amendment could help.
