PADUCAH, Ky.---You probably already know who you're voting for for President and other major offices.  But what you may not know is how you'll vote on another very significant issue.

Voters will get to decide whether to merge the Paducah/McCracken County governments and those campaigning on both sides know they're running out of time to persuade those riding the fence.

The "say no" folks are tapping into their very enthusiastic supporters,  hoping those people will use campaign signs and literature to persuade their neighbors who might be riding the fence.

The "yes" group says they'll keep focusing on educating voters, because after all not everyone's mind is made up.

An eager crowd of about 40 people appeared to hang on to every word coming from Doctor David Thomas' mouth at a "say no" meeting at the Lone Oak High School.

The doctor presented his case against merger, saying it wouldn't bring in new jobs,

"Ladies and gentleman this is rhetoric and propaganda, this is not based on fact," the doctor told the crowd.

He said it could mean an increase in taxes and create conflict within departments that'll be forced to work together.

"We were preaching to the choir tonight and they were receptive," Doctor Thomas said.

But not everyone has their minds made up, many not even aware of the issue, and those are the people who president of the Paducah Chamber of Commerce, Elaine Spalding and others with Paducah Mccracken United are targeting.

"The last few weeks of any election certainly are key times, and we will try and do as much as we can," Spalding said.

She's encouraged by the activity on the group's Facebook page and website, where she says her side presents a solid case.

Spalding said she's confident the measure will pass.

But the say no to metro group seems confident, too. Only time will tell what happens on election day, that's why both groups are trying to generate as much excitement as possible.

You'll also hear both sides advertise on the radio, plus the Paducah McCracken United group has a T.V. commercial set to start airing on the 30th.

The Say No to Metro group has raised about 18-thousand dollars, the Paducah McCracken United Group has raised well over 70-thousand dollars for campaigning.
