UPDATE (9:30 p.m.) - Preliminary autopsy results on the body of the 18-year-old swimmer found in Rend Lake Tuesday have been released.
Franklin County, Illinois Coroner Marty Leffler said the results appear to be "consistent with drowning." He also said Emillie Jo Turrentine's body showed no signs of any type of trauma or injuries, and that foul play is not a factor.
Final autopsy results will be released in a few weeks once toxicology results are made available.
Leffler went on to say "this is just a tragedy for her family, her classmates, her friends and the entire Carmi - White County area."
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Stendeback Family Funeral home in Carmi.
UPDATE (6:00 p.m.) - FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill. - She just celebrated her birthday. Now parents of a Carmi, Illinois teen are planning her funeral.
Emilie Jo Turrentine, 18, disappeared on Monday while swimming at Rend Lake in Franklin County just before noon. Conservation police worked until midnight to find her. Divers located the teen's body in ten feet of water just after 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
Investigators aren't sure how the teen drowned.
"Rend Lake's a very difficult search," said Franklin County Sheriff Don Jones.
Friends of the teen told investigators she took a breath and went under. They never saw her again.
"No alcohol, no drugs, just seems like some young folks out on a holiday weekend trying to have a good time," said Jones, "No indication of anybody in distress, she just didn't resurface."
The group of five came to Rend Lake to celebrate Emilie's birthday. They rented a pontoon boat and planned to swim. She turned 18 on Thursday, and even posted about the upcoming Labor Day adventure on Facebook.
Tuesday afternoon, divers found her body in murky water.
Investigators said there's no observable reason for the teen's drowning. But she didn't have on a life jacket and Conservation Police believe that might have saved her life.
"Always wear a life jacket. It doesn't matter what you look like, just be safe when you're out there," said Sergeant Jeff Careins.
Family members were not present at the search site on Tuesday. The Franklin County Coroner has an autopsy scheduled for late Tuesday afternoon.
FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill. - Crews are continuing the search for a swimmer who went missing on Rend Lake on Monday.
Franklin County Sheriff Don Jones says the missing girl is 18-year-old Emilie Jo Turrentine, of Carmi. Turrentine left the boat to swim with a group of friends Monday morning. She never returned.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is back on the water with four boat crews. One additional unit from the Army Corps is also out on the water. Crews are calling this a recovery mission.
The search for Turrentine continued until about midnight Monday near the Wayne Fitzgerrell State Recreational Area. Crews expanded the search Tuesday morning.
Sheriff Jones calls the situation "tragic" and adds that the group was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
