NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) - A tractor-trailer and car were involved in a fiery crash on Interstate 24 East near the Joelton exit Monday afternoon, killing one person.  The wreck was reported at 2:50 p.m. and the eastbound lanes of I-24 were closed until just before 8 p.m.

Police say the victim has been identified as Scotty Brewer, 36, of Benton, KY.

Brewer was driving a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder when he lost control, traveled off the roadway, and became stuck in mud. He managed to dislodge the vehicle and entered the roadway, then colliding with the oncoming tractor trailer.  Both vehicles caught fire. While Brewer sustained some burns, it does not appear the fire caused his fatal injuries, police said.

Evidence of alcohol was found in Brewer's SUV, and toxicology tests have been ordered to determine whether alcohol played a role in the wreck, police said.

The area was experiencing steady rainfall during the time of the wreck.

Eastbound traffic was diverted to alternate routes while officials investigated at the scene.
