UNION CITY, Tenn. — Three different cities, three different causes but they're all feeling the same pain. Tuesday, yet another charity was ripped off.
It's the third time it's happened in the past week and it has police across the Local 6 region on high alert.
The first theft happened Sunday morning at the Arby's in Calvert City.
Also over the weekend at Barbecue on the River, someone stole from a booth for Gunner's Magic Train, a cause raising funds for pediatric cancer research.
Tuesday morning, a police report was filed with Union City police about a charity jar that was stolen from a local restaurant.
Monday morning, a donation jar for the Northwest Tennessee Disaster Services which likely had upwards of $120 was gone.
"I think it's terrible," says Geri Hinson, the cashier at Laponta restaurant. "It's sad that anybody would do that."
NTDS Director Rob Adcock said jars are scattered all over northwest Tennessee and the money inside makes up nearly half the group's funding.
"I don't know their justification as to why they would do something like that because they're really hurting the community," Adcock said.
He helped start the NTDS just six weeks ago.
"Everything seemed to be going good there for a while. Now this canister theft, it's setting us back a little bit."
If you have any information about this theft, you are asked to call the Union City Police Department at (731) 885-1515.
