Three arrested in West Frankfort after string of burglaries

West Frankfort Police have arrested two adult males and a juvenile male in reference to numerous vehicle burglaries and motor vehicle thefts. 

17-year-old Carl R. Digby, of West Frankfort, 18-year-old Alexander L. Wallace, of Flora, and a 16-year-old juvenile, from West Frankfort, IL were arrested in connection with the thefts.

On June 20, the West Frankfort Police Department recovered a 1997 Ford Ranger pickup which had been reported stolen to the Franklin County Sheriff's Department.  The Ford was recovered in the 700 block of west 9th Street.

On July 1, a vehicle occupied by three male subjects were reported as suspicious due to them going into rural Franklin County resident's garages.  The males were in a 1994 Ford truck which was registered to a West Frankfort resident.  Contact was made with the owner and it was learned that the vehicle was stolen.

Later that day, the West Frankfort Police Department came into contact with a 1999 Ford Explorer being driven by Digby.  The Explorer had been reported to the Benton Police Department as stolen.  After a brief foot pursuit Digby was taken into custody as he attempted to flee through a pond.

That evening, Wallace and the juvenile were taken into custody.  Wallace was arrested at 707 N. Hughes, the juvenile was arrested at 715 N. Hughes, both in West Frankfort.

Wallace and Digby were detained at the Franklin County Jail and the juvenile was detained at the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center.  All will be charged with several counts of Theft of a Motor Vehicle and Burglary to a Motor Vehicle.   Digby will be charged additionally with charges related to fleeing police.
 
During interviews the arrestees estimated that they broke into 25 vehicles overnight.  Each did say that all of the vehicles were unlocked and most had items of value in plain sight.  Officers did recover a large amount of stolen property which will be returned to its rightful owner.
