PADUCAH - Cleaning can get expensive. But we've found ways to use household items to clean your house, laundry, and your hair cheap and easy.

This recipe for laundry detergent comes out to $0.01 a load!

Ingredients:

1 Cup Borax
1 Cup Washing Soda
1/2 Cup Fels-Naptha Soap
(All of these items can be found in the laundry detergent isle)

Directions:

- Put 12 cups of water in pot on stove on med-high heat...
- Cut soap into small bits (shavings), the smaller the pieces of soap, the better

- Add soap into water until melted, it may get a little foamy as it melts, but not too bad.  Stir frequently until all soap is melted.

- Pour 3 gallons and 4 cups of water into a 5 gallon tub.
- Add borax and washing soda.  Stir after adding Borax and Washing Soda.
- Pour in melted soap and water. Stir all of the ingredients together.
- Let it sit for 24 hours.

Also, you can wash your hair in beer and apple cider vinegar to decrease buildup and add shine. Vinegar is another great cleaning tool, especially paired with salt and baking soda. If you have an athlete with stinky practice clothes, add a little bit of vinegar to your load of laundry to eliminate smell. White vinegar in a dish can get rid of fruit flies and keep ants out.
