Unmarked graves found at Herrin Cemetery
HERRIN, Ill. - Historians and researchers have found two unmarked graves in the Herrin Cemetery in Williamson County, Illinois.
They are looking for victims of the Herrin Massacre of the early 1920s, who might be buried underneath modern-day graves.
With the Herrin City Council's approval, they're also investigating evidence that shows modern-day burials took place in a potter's field.
Crews stopped digging at lunchtime Friday because of a funeral and will resume later.
