Cairo boil water order lifted

CAIRO, Ill. - The boil water alert in Cairo, Illinois has been lifted.

Service was temporarily interrupted earlier in the week due to a water shortage. Illinois American Water restored service during the day on Monday, but schools had already been closed for the day due to the lack of water.

CAIRO, Ill. - Illinois American Water has restored water service to its Cairo customers following a temporary outage.

Customers are advised to boil all water for five minutes before drinking or cooking.

The company says it is standard procedure for a boil water order to remain in effect for 36-48 hours after restoring service.
