Woman sentenced for armed robbery, kidnapping

UNION COUNTY, Ill. - After pleading guilty, Karen Nichols has been sentenced to 10 years behind bars for the armed robbery of a Johnston City woman and the kidnapping of the woman's newborn child.

Nichols was awarded 10 years on the armed robbery charge, and a concurrent 7 years for the kidnapping felony. 

Nichols was arrested at her residence in Union County shortly after the reported kidnapping June 28, 2013.

UNION COUNTY, Ill. - Karen Nichols, 44, of Anna, Illinois was arrested Friday night in connection with an ongoing kidnapping investigation, according to Union County State's Attorney Tyler Edmonds.

Edmonds says Nichols is charged with one count of aggravated kidnapping and one count of armed robbery for taking a child after a Johnston City, Illinois woman reported the kidnapping of her newborn child Friday night.

Nichols is being held a the Jackson County Jail in Murphysboro on $500,000 bond.  Formal charges will be filed Monday morning.
