MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. - A car crash in McCracken County sent two people to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville on Sunday evening.

Sgt. Michael Wray with the McCracken County Sheriff's Department says 46-year-old Brenda Kaufman was driving westbound on Lovelaceville Road around 7:30 p.m. Sunday when she collided with a concrete culvert. The SUV flipped onto its side in a 15-foot deep creek.

The car's OnStar system alerted emergency dispatchers to the incident.

First responders entered the water and freed Kaufman and her 6-year-old granddaughter, Kendra, from the vehicle.

Brenda Kaufman was transferred to Vanderbilt Medical Center in stable condition, while Kendra was flown there. She remains in critical condition.

Lovelaceville Road was shut down in both directions for more than two hours. The road was back open to traffic by 10 p.m.
