Jennifer Horbelt

If there is one word to describe Jennifer Horbelt, it would be energetic! Meeting people and telling a great story is part of why she loves her job as an Anchor for Local 6 at 6 and 10 and as a reporter.

A native Texan, Jennifer moved to Memphis, Tennessee before deciding to attend the University of Tennessee at Martin. While there, she acted as Support and Development Director, News Director, and on-air talent for the campus radio station WUTM FM 90.3 "The Hawk". She also worked with WLJT, a PBS affiliate, as a camera operator.

During her time at UTM, she won many awards including The Communicator Award of Distinction for a Habitat for Humanity Public Service Announcement, and Best Television Journalist in the Southeast Journalism Conference. She graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin in May of 2007 as a University Scholar. While working with WPSD Local 6 in 2007, she won First Place in the Kentucky Associated Press Awards for Best Spot News along with photojournalist Michael Driver. In 2008, she was awarded First Place in the Kentucky Associated Press Awards for Best Hard News Feature along with photojournalist Chad Darnall, and an Honorable Mention for Best TV Reporter. In 2009 she was nominated for a Mid-America Emmy along with several of her peers for Team Coverage during Winter Storm '09.

Jennifer knew she had a passion for television news after interning at the CBS affiliate, WREG, in Memphis. It gave her a chance to cover high profile stories like the first Tennessee Waltz Trial, a federal court case.

In the Fall of 2006 she began her internship at Local 6, and was soon given the opportunity to do on-air work with the station. Her first story? A baby deer loose in the McCracken County Sheriff's Department! For Jennifer it was a dream come true when she began working as a reporter at Local 6 in February of 2007.

During her first few months as part of Local 6, Jennifer was finishing school at UT Martin. She says it was stressful, and may have given her a few gray hairs, but was well worth it. Now, she is enjoying only focusing on delivering the news to the WPSD Local 6 region. You can catch her co-anchoring with Scott McGee on Local 6 at 6 and 10 Monday through Friday.

Her motto? If you love what you do to pay the bills, you'll never work another day in your life.
