2.7 magnitude earthquake reported in southeast Missouri

CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. - A minor earthquake struck southeast Missouri near Caruthersville on Thursday night, making it the second earthquake this week to hit the Local 6 area.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the earthquake struck around 7:27 p.m. local time. It reportedly measured at 2.7 on the Richter Scale with an epicenter about 6 miles northeast of Caruthersville and 18 miles northwest of Dyersburg, Tennessee.

A separate 2.7 magnitude earthquake hit near Portageville, Missouri on Tuesday night. Both earthquakes occurred in the New Madrid seismic zone.
