Mother gets probation in daughter's heat death

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A southwestern Illinois woman has been
ordered to spend the next two and a half years on probation after
pleading guilty in her baby daughter's heat-related death last
Twenty-two-year-old Jennifer Gomez of Collinsville was sentenced
Tuesday after pleading guilty to felony child endangerment.
Authorities say 1-year-old Giselle Gomez died in August after
her mother left her in her car seat in a hot car for 90 minutes
while the adult went into an insurance office near Belleville.
The baby was eventually found unresponsive and covered with heat
blisters. She was declared dead at a hospital.
Investigators say the car was running but the air conditioning
was turned to heat, meaning temperatures inside the vehicle could
have reached 176 degrees.
