Ameren Missouri announced it will invest $147 million in energy efficiency programs over the next three years, making Ameren Missouri's portfolio of energy efficiency programs the largest in the state's history.

The announcement comes after the new plan was approved by the Missouri Public Service Commission in July.

"Customers will have new opportunities to help lower their energy usage beginning in January of 2013," said Michael Moehn, senior vice president of Customer Operations at Ameren Missouri. “Our new energy efficiency plan will benefit customers, the state of Missouri and the environment."

In a press release, the company estimated that current investments are expected to result in approximately $500 million in total customer benefits over the next 20 years. The company also said it expects to save 800 million kilowatt-hours each year, which is equal to the energy consumption of more than 60,000 average Missouri homes annually.
