Gov. Nixon declares state of emergency in Missouri
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The severe winter storm forced Missouri Governor Jay Nixon to declare a state of emergency.
A mix of snow, sleet and ice caused problem throughout the state Thursday.
“Missouri stands ready to help communities in need and to deploy the resources to keep folks safe. I urge all Missourians to keep a close eye on the weather and avoid unnecessary travel,” Gov. Nixon said.
In addition to the state of emergency declaration, Governor Nixon activated the Missouri State Emergency Operations Plan, which allows state agencies to coordinate directly with local agencies to offer emergency services.
Citizens who need disaster or shelter information should call 211. In those parts of the state where 211 does not work, citizens should call 800-427-4626.
