CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - A man charged in connection with a failed suicide attempt will be arrested once he gets out of the hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
Police say 44-year-old David Wayne Salzman was parked in the 1200 block of North Spanish Street around 7:30 Sunday morning. When an officer approached his car, an explosion went off.
People living within a block of the explosion were forced to evacuate for several hours.
Salzman sustained moderate, non-life threatening injuries and is charged with Assault of a Law Enforcement Officer, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Violation of an Order of Protection.
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Cape Girardeau police officers were called to the 1200 block of North Spanish Street around 7:30 Sunday morning in reference to a disturbance.
When the officers arrived, they found a man inside a vehicle that was parked outside 1201 N. Spanish. An explosion occurred inside the vehicle when officer approached the vehicle.
A 44 year-old male was inside. The sheriff's department says he sustained moderate non-life threatening injuries, and is being treated at a local hospital.
Officer Darin Hickey says it appears that the subject attempted to commit suicide.
The ATF, FBI and SEMO Regional Bomb Squad were also on scene assisting with the investigation. Houses were evacuated with in one block of the residence from 7:45am to 11:30am.
The case is still under investigation.
