SCOTT CITY, Mo. - A Scott City, Missouri man faces several charges, including murder, in the death of his mother.

Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter says 25-year-old Neil Howland is charged with First Degree Murder, Tampering with Evidence, Abandonment of a Corpse and Knowingly Burning.

The body of Howland's mother, Cynthia Canoy, was found in a burning car earlier this month.

Walter says Howland was identified early in the investigation as a person of interest in the case.

Howland is the Scott County Jail, where he is being held without bond.
