Hall of Famer Sayers to withdraw from NFL lawsuit

CHICAGO - A Chicago attorney says Hall of Fame running back Gale Sayers wants to drop a lawsuit against the National Football League and helmet maker Riddell for allegedly failing to prevent repeated head injuries.
The lawsuit was filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Chicago by attorney John F. Winters. It contended that the former Chicago Bears player suffers headaches, occasional short-term memory loss and other cognitive deficits.
Winters told The Associated Press on Sunday that a family member contacted him on Saturday to say Sayers wanted to withdraw from the suit.
The Chicago Tribune reported that Sayers says the lawsuit was filed without authorization. Winters says he's "not in the habit" of filing lawsuits without permission.
He says it'll be withdrawn after he ensures Sayers' right to future litigation.
