AP NewsMinute 12:55 p.m. CST - Most-watched program...Recall coming...No more missing
NEW YORK (AP) - It's not just the most-watched Super Bowl ever
-- it had more viewers than any program in television history. The Nielsen Company today is estimating that 106.5 million people watched the New Orleans Saints beat the Indianapolis Colts last night. That tops the previous viewing record of just under 106 million for the final episode of "M-A-S-H." TOKYO (AP) - A new Toyota recall is reportedly in the works. Japan's Kyodo News Agency says the company plans to recall about 300,000 Prius hybrids around the world because of a brake problem. The report says Toyota will probably notify the U.S. and Japanese governments tomorrow. The recall will reportedly involve the latest version of the car, which was sold starting in May of last year. WASHINGTON (AP) - Republicans are giving a chilly reception to a suggestion from President Barack Obama for a televised, bipartisan chat about health care later this month. The top Republican on a House oversight panel, Darrell Issa, says the first question he'd like to ask Obama is, "Did you lie about moving forward on malpractice reform?" Obama's invitation comes amid complaints that Democrats have been too partisan and too secretive on health care. PHILADELPHIA (AP) - It's looking like the snowiest winter on record for Philadelphia. Another huge snowstorm is expected to smack the area this week, bringing 12 to 18 inches. That's on top of more than 28 inches that fell on the city over the weekend. Just 9 inches would make this winter the snowiest since Philadelphia started keeping records in 1884. MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (AP) - It's still not safe for crews to go back into the rubble of a power plant in Connecticut where an explosion left five workers dead yesterday. But officials now say everyone is accounted for, and they don't believe any additional victims will be found. |
