An unusual wedding makes for a happy memorySACRAMENTO, Calif. - A U.S soldier stationed in Afghanistan has married the woman of his dreams... over the telephone. A combat medic in the Army, Specialist Randall Blake is serving a one year tour in Afghanistan.
Blake and his fiance Sarah Brown say they couldn't wait, and weren't going to let his deployment get in the way.
Sarah didn't envision her dream wedding taking place at the El Dorado County Vital Statistic Office in Placerville, and she didn't imagine Randall's mother standing next to her as his power of attorney.
It's one of the first marry "by proxy" unions in Placerville.
Retired Chief Petty Officer William Schultz married them over the phone.
"This is very special, I'm very happy to be able to do this," Schultz said.
