Bill would raise minimum wage to $10

CHICAGO (AP) — U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. has written legislation for the U.S. House that would increase the minimum wage to $10 per hour.

Jackson says he will introduce the bill Wednesday in Washington. Under his proposal the federal minimum wage would increase $2.75 per hour. The federal minimum wage has been $7.25 since 2007.

The Chicago Democrat says the legislation will affect more than 30 million workers. He says former independent presidential candidate and consumer advocate Ralph Nader encouraged him to introduce the legislation.

The federal minimum wage is covered by the 1938 Fair Labor Standards Act.
