10,000 Steps Challenge begins today

Executive Producer - Josh Morgan

PADUCAH, Ky. -- Today is the day to get your walking shoes out and join us here at WPSD Local 6 as we take action toward getting fit!  In partnership with Massac Memorial Hospital, we are kicking off our 10,000 Steps Challenge!

The goal is to walk at least 10,000 steps each day during the month of February.  Walking on a daily basis has great health benefits and will help you lose weight and lower your cholesterol.

The Local 6 Today crew of Johnette Worak, Mike Mallory and Marissa Hollowed will be kicking this community campaign off today at Kentucky Oaks Mall in Paducah.  They will be at Center Court from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. passing out free pedometers and calendars to the first 500 people who arrive.

Over the course of February, the Local 6 Today team along with Local 6's Todd Faulkner and Laura Emerson, will be sharing stories and experiences of their quest for 10,000 steps a day.  The first of these stories will be shared today throughout all of our Monday shows.  We will have stories during Local 6 Today, Local 6 Midday, Local 6 at 5, Local 6 at 6 and Local 6 at 10.

The most important part for this campaign is to get you involved with us!  We want to hear your stories and see photos and videos of you out walking with friends and family.  We can't wait to see the progress you make over the next four weeks!

You can share your progress by uploading your stories to our Facebook page or by tweeting us with the hashtag #10KSteps.

So join us for the 10,000 Steps Challenge and we will join you in celebrating a more healthy you!  Good luck!
