WEAKLEY COUNTY, TN - One man is dead after trying to put out a hay bail fire.

The Weakley County Sheriff's Department was called to the 1900 block of Tumbling Creek Road east of Gleason, Tennessee on Saturday, March 20th. The call was to investigate a partially burned body found in a nearby field.

The investigation found the body to be that of 48-year-old Jackie Henson of Old Latham Road of Dresden. Latham had purchased a roll of hay from someone on Tumbling Creek Road on Thursday, March 18th. A witness had seen Henson pulling the hay down the road and the hay had caught fire.

Police believe Henson drove into a field and attempted to put the hay out with water found in a ditch. They think he either was overcome with smoke or suffered some type of medical emergency.

The vehicle was not noticed in the field until the following Saturday morning. The body was sent to the medical examiner's office in Memphis, Tennessee for autopsy.
