Former pastor, woman accused of plotting to kill pastor's wife plead not guilty
UNION CITY, Tenn. - A pastor facing attempted murder charges is receiving support not only from the community, but his wife -- the woman investigators say he plotted to kill.
An Obion County, Tennessee Grand Jury indicted Edward Mallonee and Shelly Moran on Conspiracy to Commit 1st Degree Murder and Attempt to Commit 1st Degree Murder charges.
After a months-long investigation, Union City Police say the pair plotted to murder Mallonee's wife, Cathy. Investigators say the two conspired to poison Mrs. Mallonee in Honduras, hoping she would die.
Both Mallonee and Moran entered not guilty pleas Monday morning.
Mr. Mallonee is the former pastor at Union City Second Baptist Church and Moran was a church member.
Members of the church and Cathy Mallonee were on hand today to offer support. Mr. and Mrs. Mallonee left court holding hands.
Mallonee's lawyer, John Miles told Local 6, " Mr. Mallonee has been married almost 34 years now. His wife and his entire family stand with him."
Mallonee and Moran are due back in court July 26th.
