Holiday Music and Storytelling continues on WKMS

MURRAY, Ky - Listener-supported radio station, 91.3 WKMS continues their annual holiday series of special music and storytelling programs.

Holidays Sound Good on WKMS continues through New Year's Day 2014 and includes over 80 hours of radio features. The scheduled features are as follows:

Thursday, December 19

  • Noon: A Chanticleer Christmas- America's finest 12-voice male choir performs a program that spans the globe and the centuries - from England in the 1300s to new arrangements of classic and contemporary carols. S[sponsored in part by Baptist Health Paducah.
  • 9p.m. The Jive House Funky Christmas- Brad and John celebrate with fun and obscure holiday tunes by Vernon Garrett, Jimmy Jules and Nuclear Soul System and Rev. T.L. Barrett & The Youth for Christ Choir.
  • 10 p.m. A Funky Jazz Christmas with George Eldred - hear one hour of seasonal jazz favorites hand-picked by Santa George.

Friday, December 20

  • Noon: A Choral Christmas with Stile Antico- The award winning group Stile Antico performs radiant sacred music, including pieces by Thomas Tallis and William Byrd, in St. Paul's Church on Harvard Square.
  • 7 p.m. Paul Winter Consort's Winter Solstice Celebration - Celebrate the longest night of the year with an ethereal concert in the world's largest Gothic cathedral, New York's Cathedral of St. John the Divine. Sponsored in part by Ashland of Calvert City.
  • 9 p.m. House Blend Festive Holiday Show - David Weatherly blends up some holiday fun with frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Martin Denny.
  • 11 p.m. The Retro Cocktail Hour Christmas Party (2013) - Retro host Darrell Brogdon brings holiday music that's shaken, not stirred with tunes by Dean Martin, The Harmonicats, Edd "Kookie" Byrnes, and Peggy Lee.

Saturday, December 21

  • 10 a.m. Music from the Front Porch Christmas - Enjoy favorite Bluegrass artists performing familiar tunes including Doc Watson's "Christmas Lullaby" and Rhonda Vincent's "O Christmas Tree."
  • 1 p.m. Rick's Kitchen Sink Christmas Special - This festive broadcast features Juan Carlos Esquivel, The Ronettes, Aretha Franklin, Dean Martin Jethro Tull and Joni Mitchell.
  • 8 p.m. Beyond The Edge Holiday special - Tracy features music for the season by U2, Neko Case, Okkervil River.
  • 11p.m. Weekend Energy Dubstep Christmas - Matt's fourth- annual Dubstep Christmas introduces two hours of "chunky bass lines" to get you in the Christmas mood.

Sunday, December 22

  • 5 a.m. Classical Encore Christmas - Dr. John Dressler observes the season with Nicolai Rimsky - Korsakov's Christmas Eve Suite and Gustav Holst's Christmas Day.
  • 11 a.m. The Paducah Symphony Orchestra's A Christmas Celebration - The Paducah Symphony Orchestra, its choruses and the Murray State University Concert Choir performance of December 14, 2013. This program repeats 9 p.m. Sponsored in part by Barkley Regional Airport. 
  • 1 p.m. Jazzman Christmas - Longtime volunteer Andy "Jazzman" Smith offers traditional yuletide jazz.
  • 7 p.m. A Christmas Celtic Sojourn 2013 - Host Brian O'Donovan tells Celtic stories and presents great traditional singers and instrumentalists in the Cutler Majestic Theatre in Boston.

Monday, December 23

  • Noon - Messiah from Washington National Cathedral - Washington Cathedral's annual performance of Handel's Messiah attracts an audience of thousands. Robert Aubry Davis is master of ceremonies while a team of soloists from the US and abroad perform Handel's immortal oratorio. Sponsored in part by Paducah Bank.
  • 9 p.m. A Cafe Jazz Christmas with George Eldred - Two hours of great Christmas jazz from Dexter Gordon, Ella Fitzgerald, and a sleigh of others.
