NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The polls have opened across Tennessee as voters make choices in federal, state and local races.

Party primary elections and local general elections are on the ballots.

The weather is hot, but only scattered thunderstorms are expected statewide. Still, high temperatures in the upper 90s are forecast for the western half of Tennessee.

Among the most closely watched contests are the efforts by U.S. Reps. Chuck Fleischmann of Chattanooga and Diane Black of Gallatin to return to Congress for a second term. Both have faced strong challenges for the Republican nomination.

The polls opened at 7 a.m. CDT and 8 a.m. EDT and will remain open for 12 hours.
