WASHINGTON - Kentucky and Tennessee's U.S. senators have joined together to introduce the Freedom to Fish Act Thursday.

The bill is meant to protect fishing near dams on the Cumberland River.

It would prevent the Army Corps of Engineers from installing physical barriers along portions of the river, which would block fishing access to the tailwaters of the Barkley and Wolf Creek Dams.

An identical bill has been introduced by Kentucky Representative Ed Whitfield in the U.S. House of Representatives.
