PADUCAH — Jack and Dodee Sergeant have been married for 61 years. They've got four kids, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Their passion is painting. Their work spans decades and most of their inspiration comes from the things around them, things they see.

But this month Jack's inspiration comes from something that's no longer there: the Eggners Ferry Bridge.

"With the delta mariner stuck in the middle," Jack laughs.

The accident happened late January in the middle of the night. Jack and Dodee live in Aurora, which meant they were stuck.

"There's a lot of cars that go across that bridge and our area depends on it," Jack said. "I just felt that it's going to be a problem and it has been."

So, he channels his frustration and takes up the challenge that the picture brings. For him, the journey of the painting is more than just another project on the wall. It's a learning experience, a lesson in history and, of course, fun.

Jack plans finished with the painting by the end of the month. Currently, there's no price tag on it but he's willing to negotiate if there's a buyer.
