One dead, one trapped in car crash
MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. - Kentucky State Police are investigating a deadly wreck that also left a man trapped for hours before freeing himself early Tuesday morning.
The wreck occurred near the intersection of Old Husbands Road and John Puryear Dr. around 1:30 a.m., when a 2001 Oldsmobile, driven by 35-year-old Shane Crooks, was driving south on John Puryear Dr. when, for unknown reasons, he left the right side of the roadway. Crooks tried to regain control of the car, but it overturned several times.
While the car was rolling, an unrestrained passenger, 30-year-old David Willhelm, was ejected. Mr. Crooks was inside of the rolled car for about 5 hours before he managed to free himself and go into the Exxon gas station near the site of the wreck.
Crooks and Willhelm, both McCracken County residents, were transported to Lourdes Hospital where Willhelm was later pronounced deceased.
KSP, McCracken County Sheriff’s Department, McCracken County Coroner's Office, and Mercy Regional EMS all responded.
