Crews From Vanzant's Wrecker Service and the Kentucky Department of Transportation are expected back out on Interstate 24 this morning to clean up items from 2 crashes Wednesday night.

At 11:10 p.m., McCracken County Sheriff's deputies responsed to a scene of an automobile accident in the west bound lanes of Interstate 24, at the 14 mile marker. They found that a vehicle, driven by a 16 year old Branston York, of Paducah, had struck a heavy loaded, slow moving pickup truck in the rear. Deputies say the truck was down an embankment.

They found the truck operator, 64 year old, Thomas San Roman, of Edgar Springs, Missouri, unconsicous and entrapped in the truck. He was transported to Lourdes Hospital, where he was treated and released for minor injuries.

The collision caused computer equipment, canned food, and tools on the truck to spill out onto the road, causing the westbound lanes to come to a stop. Deputies closed a two mile stretch of the westbound lanes for an hour and half until the debris were cleared from one lane.

While investigating the westbound incident, another vehicle crash happend directly across from the site in the eastbound lanes. A vehicle, driven by 71 year old, Leo Carter, of Kuttawa, KY slowed suddenly in front of a semi-tractor and trailer and was rear ended. This forced the vehicle off the roadway and down the embankment and into a tree. Carter was transported to Lourdes Hospital.

As for the vehicle that hit the pick up, deputies say 54 year old Douglas Pennington, of Tullahoma, TN appears to have slowed down while looking at the westbound lane accident, and was unable to avoid hitting the pickup. He was not injured.
