Work to begin on US 62 reconstruction east of Eddyville
LYON COUNTY, Ky. -- Work on a new 4-lane section of US 62 just east of Eddyville in Lyon County is expected to start on Monday, December 2, 2013.
US 62/Eddyville-Princeton Road will be reconstructed from about mile point 9.4 at the end of the existing 4-lane just east of Commerce Avenue in Eddyville, extending eastward past the US 641 Intersection to the Interstate 69 Exit 72 Eddyville-Princeton Interchange at about mile point 12.1.
Initial work in this area will be clearing of brush along the right of way, moving of utilities, and construction of an additional overpass to cross the P&L Railroad tracks at mile point 11.626. Much of the electrical utilities along this 2.7 mile section have been moved over the last year.
The contractor plans to construct two new lanes along his section, then move traffic over to allow reconstruction upgrading of the existing lanes. This will create a 4-lane connection all the way from Interstate 69 to Interstate 24 through Eddyville.
Motorists should be alert for equipment, flaggers and construction personnel along this section of US 62 as it will be an active work zone. Additional updates on the need for traffic restrictions will be provided as appropriate.
Jim Smith Construction is the prime contractor on this $14.8 million project. The project has a 150 working day schedule. Most of the grade and drain work will follow as weather allows in the spring with completion likely late next year.
Approximately 6,000 vehicles travel this section of US 62 in an average day.
