Thomas Arthur Gossum

Thomas Arthur Gossum, age 72, died Friday, November 22 at Caldwell Medical Center in Princeton, KY.
He was born April 13, 1941 in Obion County Tennessee to Earl K and Evelyn D. Gossum, on the family farm. He attended school in Fulton, Calvert City and North Marshall. In July 1958 he joined the U.S. Army, Military Police and served in the U.S., Italy, Vietnam and Germany for the next 22 years and retired a Master Sergeant in 1981. He was wounded in combat and received the Purple Heart and received many other meritorious awards for his accomplishments for our country. He worked at the Kentucky State Penitentiary for 17 years, retiring in 2003. He was a member of New Life Assembly of God Church in Benton, Masonic Lodge #232 Dycusburg, Rizpah Shriners Temple and Lyon County American Legion Post #68.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Diane Gossum of Kuttawa. Three daughters and sons-in-law, Dawn & David Henderson, Benton, Stephanie & Brad Brown, Symsonia, and Shannon & Eric Schroader of Dexter; six grandchildren, Ashley Nance, Dalton Henderson, Alex Brown, Maci Brown, Jake Schroader and Dylan Schroader; one great grandchild, Emersyn Nance; three brothers, Richard Gossum, Phoenix, AZ, James Gossum, Lansing, MI and David Gossum, Benton, KY.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl K. Gossum and Evelyn D. Murphy and his stepmother, Yvonne Gossum and one brother, Robert A. Gossum.
There will be no visitation.
Memorial services will be held at Lakeland Funeral Home in Eddyville on Monday, December 2 at 11:00 A.M.
Entombment will be at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville with military rites.
