Charles Louis Watkins
"Charlie" was born in Ocala, Florida and grew up playing sports, hunting, and fishing. He attended Chipola Junior College in Fla. He was a graduate of Auburn University in Ala.
He was working at Lockheed as a manufacturing engineer when called to active duty. Later Charlie came to Benton, KY to the area where his father had grown up, to work at Consolidated Aluminum in management. He then worked at General Tire in management. Afterwards he spent many years as a real estate agent with ReMax. He was on the Board of Realtors as a director and a member of the Chamber of Commerce during this time.
During his lifetime he was an avid hunter, bird watcher, and fisherman. He served several years as Director of the Benton Chapter of Ducks Unlimited. He was a charter member of the local Quail Unlimited organization. He was a member at one time of the League of Kentucky Sportsmen, LBL Sportsmen's Club, Calvert City Gun Club, and Trout Unlimited. He was delighted as a lifetime member to see the progress of the Friends of Clark's River Refuge Group.
He was a veteran and served in the Army Reserve. He was given the honor of being a Kentucky Colonel by Gov. Martha Lane Collins.
Charlie was a member of Benton First United Methodist Church and was a member of Faith's Journey Sunday School Class.
Charlie and his wife of forty -eight years, Kay Watkins have two sons; Charles Louis Watkins II "Chuck" and his wife, Diana of Benton, KY, Dr. Carl Lawson Watkins and his wife, Amy of Owensboro, KY. Charlie and Kay have three grandchildren. They are Porter Watkins, Reagan Watkins, and Eli Watkins of Owensboro, KY., step-grandson, Hunter Stubblefield of Benton, KY.
His sister is Mary Ellen Alexander of Atlanta, Georgia. His brother is James E. Watkins of Pensacola, Florida. His parents were the late Mary Connell Watkins and Ed L. Watkins.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 9, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Collier Funeral Home, Benton, KY. Rev. David Atkinson will officiate.
Interment is to follow the service in the Benton Cemetery, Benton, KY
Friends may visit with the family between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2013 at the Collier Funeral Home, Benton, KY.
