Murray State claims 2010 OVC Rifle Championship crown

The Murray State Racers won their ninth Ohio Valley Conference Rifle Championship Sunday at the Pat Spurgin Range in Murray, Ky.

The Racers, who led by four points over Jacksonville State after Saturday's smallbore competition, brought home the OVC title when they posted a 2322 and a total of 4595 which was good for an 18-point over the Gamecocks who finished at 4577.

Murray State was led in air rifle by Emily Quiner and Kasey Meyer who posted scores of 587 and 582, while Daniel Sojka added a 580 and the Racers got a 573 from Kaitlin Cleven.

The Racers' ninth OVC title comes after they won it last in 2005.

Quiner, only a freshman, was named the OVC Air Rifle Athlete of the Year and was also named to the OVC's Newcomer Team for both guns and earned OVC Freshman of the Year honors.

Murray State also away Sojka, Barber and Meyer all earn All-OVC honors in the weekend competition.

Murray State's Alan Lollar was named the OVC Coach of the Year by his peers in the league.

UT Martin Women finished third in the competition with a 4547, while Tennessee Tech was fourth at 4446. UT Martin Mixed was fifth with a 4533, while Morehead State rounded out the field with a 4525.
