Mayfield is football royalty in west Kentucky with eight state titles, including two in the last decade.  So it's not surprising so many programs try to be like them.

The Cardinals have historically been Mt. Everest for many teams in our area.  But in 2008, Crittenden County finally climbed Everest and had their best season in a generation.

Heading into 2008, the Rockets had never beaten Mayfield.  But on September 26th of that year, it finally happened.  Crittenden County went to War Memorial Stadium and beat the Cardinals 27-14.

The rematch came in the state quarterfinals.  The week of preparation for the Rockets was tense because they knew everybody doubted them, thinking the first win was a fluke.

As it turned out, it wasn't.

Crittenden County ran for 297 yards in the playoff matchup and beat the Cardinals a second time, 26-14.  The win propelled the Rockets to the state semifinals for the first time 1985, the year they won the state championship.
