Boston Marathon winner returns to Murray
MURRAY, KY-- About nine years ago, Wesley Korir left his home country of Kenya for America, for a college education.
Murray State University was Korir's first stop. During his time as a Racer, Korir won three Ohio Valley Conference titles, but he transferred to Louisville after the men's track program was cut at Murray State.
Since then, he's won two L.A. Marathons, and most recently the 2012 Boston Marathon. On Tuesday, Korir returned to Murray for the first time since he transferred. He was greeted by fans at the Murray-Calloway County hospital where he was registered as the first runner for the 2013 Murray half marathon.
Since winning the Boston Marathon, Korir says he's been offered dozens of opportunities to make appearances all across the country, some of which he's had to turn down. But when folks in Murray reached out to him, he couldn't pass it up.
Now that he's been registered as the first runner for the Murray half marathon next year, Korir says that will be motivation for him to come back and either run, or at least support it in some form.
