Caldwell's Barnes gets friendly advice from Mayfield's Morris

Caldwell County is just days away from playing for their first state championship since 1998.   This will be the Tigers third trip to the state championship -- the first two resulted in state titles.

For Tiger coach David Barnes, this is his first ever trip to a state championship game -- either as a head coach or as an assistant.   This is obviously a different week than any other he's ever dealt with as a coach.

This week he's gotten some advice from a friend who's played in a few of these state title games.  that friend is Mayfield coach Joe Morris.  Morris will be coaching in his 6th state championship game Friday-- that's just as a head coach.  his message to Barnes was pretty simple.
"Don't over-coach them," Morris said.  "You've gotten there for a reason. I'm so proud of Coach Barnes and the team at Caldwell County. They've got a great group of kids.  Just don't go up there to enjoy the experience -- go play to win."
The Tigers will kick-off with Newport Central Catholic at 11:00am Saturday in Bowling Green.
