Miners rally past Greys 5-4

Marion, IL - Miners starting pitcher Blake Nation earned his second win of the season as he pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed four runs (two earned) with three strike outs to lead the Miners to a 5-4 victory over the Frontier Greys (6-7).
 
The Miners jumped on the board first 1-0 with a two out base hit and RBI by first baseman Gerardo Avila to score center fielder Tyler Hall.  The Greys tied the game off Nation with a solo home run by designated hitter Blake Bergeron in the top of the second inning.   The Greys added two more runs on a two run home run by center fielder Justin Vazquez to lead 3-1.
 
Second baseman Cannon Lester hit a base hit off Greys starter Tyler Vaske with the bases loaded to score Gerardo Avila and catcher Mario Mercedes cleared the bases with a double to give the Miners a 5-3 lead.  The Frontier Greys added another run off Nation as first baseman Tyler Kolodny hit a solo home run to trim the Miners lead to 5-4.
 
Reese McGraw pitched 1 2/3 innings and struck out one batter.  Bryant George pitched 2/3 of an inning in the eighth and gave up one hit and one walk.  Brandon Cunniff recorded the final four outs, recording three strikeouts to earn his fifth save.  The Miners improved to 7-6 on the season.
 
The two teams will meet tomorrow at Rent One Park.  First pitch is at 7:05 pm.
