Majors leads Hopkinsville past South Oldham 74-52

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Jordan Majors scored a game-high 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting, and Hopkinsville coasted to a 74-52 win over South Oldham on Wednesday in the first round of the Kentucky boys' Sweet 16 state basketball tournament.
     
Hopkinsville (32-4) jumped out to an 8-1 lead, but the Dragons scored six unanswered points to get within one. The Tigers answered with a 21-1 run over a 6 1/2-minute stretch to put the game out of reach in the second quarter.
     
The Tigers, who won the 2nd Region championship, shot 65.9 percent (29 of 44). They play Graves County in the quarterfinal round Friday. The two played Jan. 17, and Hopkinsville won on the road 81-59.
     
Jaqualis Matlock finished with 18 points and 17 rebounds for the Tigers, and Trey Edwards scored 16. Majors, Matlock and Edwards combined for 23-of-31 shooting from the floor.
     
Matthew Haysley led the Dragons (24-8) with 14 points.
