Miners win with walk-off homerun

Marion, IL - The Miners have now played three extra inning games in a row and winning Saturday’s game on a walk-off home run by Steven Liddle with one out in the bottom of the thirteenth inning off River City Rascals reliever Nick Kennedy.  The Miners won the game 3-2 and are now 29-21 on the season.  Race Parmenter earned his second victory of the season as he pitched five innings in relief and allowed one run off two hits with one strikeout.

The Miners took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning off Rascals starter Tommy Mendoza as Steven Liddle hit a RBI single to score Carlos Colmenares and Carlos Mendez hit a RBI groundout to score Jon Eisen.  The Rascals scored a run in the top of the sixth inning as third baseman Steve Carillo hit a RBI double off Miners reliever Jon Mark Abbey to make it a 2-1 game. 

River City tied the game in the top of the ninth inning as Danny Canela hit a sacrifice fly off Race Parmenter to score former Miner Will Block.  Peter Perez pitched two scoreless innings in relief and recorded one strikeout.  Jon Mark Abbey allowed one run off four hits in one inning of relief. 

Southern Illinois and River City wrap up the series and the first half of the season tomorrow night at Rent One Park.  First pitch gets underway at 5:05 pm.
