Murray State AD: No new coach expected before Monday
Murray State Athletics Director Allen Ward says he doesn't expect to name a new men's basketball before at least the beginning of next week. Ward says he is being thorough with the search process and that takes time.
Friday the search will slow slightly as Ward has a meeting with the Board of Regents to discuss the basketball program's new practice facility.
Ward says he has 'visited' with Murray State assistant Steve Prohm. Prohm has been Billy Kennedy's top assistant for much of the last decade. Ward said he expects to meet with Prohm again soon. Ward also indicated while he has talked with some other people interested in the job, no other candidates have visited campus and no visits are scheduled.
Ward has been tight-lipped about the names of the coaching candidates. One candidate confirmed he has spoken with Ward and that's Mid-Continent head coach Winston Bennett. Bennett said he has spoken with Ward about his interest in the job, but that is as far as the process has gone. Bennett played at UK and then in the NBA. He was an assistant at Kentucky in the mid-90's, and is getting ready for his fifth season at Mid-Continent.
